What was it like joining a sorority? When you were checking them all out, I think it's called rushing, were you intimidated by any of the girls? How much different are the sororities from one another at your school? Sorry for all the questions, I'm going to be a freshman in the fall and I'm really curious about it!
Don’t be sorry! :)
Honestly, I didn’t even want Greek life when I was looking at colleges. Totally meant nothing to me. I had a rough time beginning of freshman year and my roommate suggest I do it with her for the spring semester, so I signed up for formal recruitment.
I didn’t go to any meet the sisters or events or anything. I virtually knew nothing about it lol. Formal recruitment (yup, rush) depending on your school will be a weekend or two long and it lets you check out all the sororities and rank them and they rank you and that’s how you get a bid. So at my school there were 6. You’ll know when you walk into a house immediately if you feel comfortable or not. I know which ones I definitely wanted to eliminate right away.
It is intimidating, for sure. But after being on the other side of it this past year you realize the girls already in the sorority are just as nervous as the PNMs (potential new members). Think about it, we’re looking for girls to join our organization. We want you guys to like us too! So it’s a little scary for everyone.
But, you’ll know where you feel like you belong. The ones at mine are all different. My biggest pieces of advice is to not let people’s opinions get in your head. Ignore rumors. Don’t care what people say. If YOU like a certain sorority, go for it! You’ll find most of the negative talk is petty girl stuff anyway.
It was definitely the best decision I’ve made in college. I’ve met the best friends in the entire world. And I have tons of friends in other sororities, too. And fraternities. And not in Greek life. It opens a lot of doors in a lot of different ways (totally cool if you decide against it too, it isn’t for everyone, but hey I recommend it).
Best of luck to you in the fall, you’re going to love college! Let me know if you have any other questions :) xo
